Today is Blue-sday

I simply must write this in purple.  Today is my Blue-s-day but it really was a purple thing, at first.  You see, I had a painful pedicure a week ago.  The nice Vietnamese fellow who does my nails was a little rough on my feet with the scrubber.  It only hurt a little so I did not speak up.  My feet were tender for several days and are still.  I thought I was over it.  But last night I had my massage and declined the foot scrub sharing my feet were still a little sore.  The therapist looked at my feet and exclaimed, "They're purple!"

I looked down and, yeah, my heels were a tiny bit blue.  However, when I looked down at my feet at lunch today, they WERE purple!  In fact, the discoloration was growing up to my ankles.  BOTH FEET and BOTH ANKLES!  I freaked out.

A kind teacher covered my class so I could go immediately to my doctor.  On the way, I called the owner of the nail shop.  She invited me to stop by as well.  I figured the doctor was the first choice.   After a serious exam, the doc ordered lab tests to make sure I was not having a bleed out but said my foot pulses were fine.  Mind you I survived a blood clot in my leg ten years ago.  That nasty clot is still in my leg, cauterized on both ends.  Some of it did manage to embolize through my lungs.  Thus, I take circulation issues quite seriously.  I was relieved to learn my pulse oxygen and blood pressure were fine.  It also seemed the blue got a little better when I elevated them.  The doc also suggested a warm foot bath each night and reassured me I was probably really bruised.

Since I was going to live, I reported back to work and, immediately thereafter, swung by the nail shop.  The owner grabbed some cotton gauze, alcohol, and began to swipe my feet.  Soon the gauze was covered in blue!  She looked up in her sweet style and said, "It's dye."   I borrowed more supplies and cleaned my feet.

Now I was really puzzled.  I was wearing a nice pair of leather sandles I'd wore for a year with no prior discoloration.

  Then ..............

I looked at my clothes.  I was wearing a brand new denim skirt.  Humiliated, I exited to the bathroom.  I pulled out several paper towels, lifted my skirt, and wiped my legs.  MORE BLUE!

So, April 9 will now be Blue-sday on my calendar.  It will be the day I prepare blue food, wear blue clothes and laugh blue laughs.  In spite of my feeling a little foolish for it all, I did manage to get my annual thyroid blood work accomplished in the office vs. waiting in one of those overcrowded lab shops on a Saturday morning.

I first thought to stay in the closet with my story.  However, my daughter feels I have earned the right to tell it.  I learned to laugh at myself and have had a good one today.
